Commercial Tipping & Waste Rules 2025
If your business produces commercial waste, changes to UK legislation in 2025 could have a big impact. At Fawkes Recycling, we’ve been helping businesses across Chesterfield and Sheffield manage their tipping needs safely and efficiently. Now is the time to review your waste setup.
We’re here to make sure your business stays compliant and ahead of the curve.
What’s Changed?
From 31 March 2025, businesses in England with 10 or more employees were legally required to separate their waste into different streams. This includes food waste, paper and cardboard, recyclable plastics, glass, metal and residual waste.
If your business deals with food or packaging waste. You’ll need to start thinking about how this will be collected, stored and processed. These rules apply whether you’re running a café, workshop, office or retail space. Smaller businesses with fewer than 10 employees will need to comply by March 2027.
These changes are part of the government’s wider plan to reduce landfill, cut contamination and increase recycling rates in the workplace.
Why It Matters
Failing to follow the new rules could lead to enforcement action or financial penalties from local authorities. On top of that, landfill tax continues to rise. This makes poor waste practices even more expensive for businesses in the long run.
It’s not just about avoiding fines. Separating your waste properly could actually help your business reduce its costs and improve sustainability.
